With about 1903 species, Colombia is the number one country in bird diversity in the world (with over 22% of all bird species in the world!) Additionally, the country is number three in South America with almost 70 endemic species after Brazil and Peru respectively listing 203 and 105. Colombia is a paradise for birdwatchers with innumerable options from the cloud forest and paramos of the Andes to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta or the jungles of the Amazon and Chocó regions.

In Sierra Nevada area alone, there are approximately 640 species of birds. In Minca you have an opportunity to see some of the 365 species of these birds, such as Tucans, Macaws, up to 20 species of Hummingbirds, Sparrows, Flycatchers, Golden Quetzal, Oropendolas, and many others.

Don´t miss this opportunity to be guided by a bird specialist in an area that is one of the best places in the world to spot a large number of rare and colorful birds.

Your bird watching expert guide and driver will pick you up at your accommodation, drive you for approximately 1 hour to Minca and walk with you the trails in the surroundings of the village. More professional birdwatchers can opt to go to areas that are located at a higher altitude. Here, the chances of spotting rare and endemic birds are high.

During the tour, you will receive interesting information from your guide about the local flora and fauna. You will see many birds, some of them very beautiful and colorful.

However, even non-birders will enjoy this tour as you will do some great walks through nature and get to some of the best viewpoints in the area. From these spots, you will probably witness some of the best sunrises you will ever see.

The entire bird watching experience lasts for around 3 hours. It starts early in the morning (6:00 am) when the birds are more active, and it will finish around 9:00 am. At this time, the birds are less active and therefore harder to spot. Additionally, you will certainly be hungry and ready for a delicious breakfast.
